Our Fourth Form’s Strong Start at Mill Hill School

As we approach the end of the first half-term, it is clear our new Fourth Form have made an impressive start to their Mill Hill careers. In just a few short weeks, they have risen confidently to the expectations set for them—embracing the routines, standards, and spirit that define life here and striving for excellence in all that they try. The transition is never an easy one, but they have grasped the importance of punctuality, pride in their uniform and establishing a consistent Prep routine quickly.

Their resilience was tested early on—quite literally—in torrential rain and gale-force winds during the Teambuilding Afternoon. Competing in House teams through a series of Taskmaster-style challenges, the pupils demonstrated remarkable perseverance and humour despite the conditions. It was in those wet and windswept moments that the first signs of their collective character began to emerge.

In Martlet, the Fourth Form have had a true taster of what Mill Hill has to offer. From trying their hand at Dance, Debating and Fives, to completing a School History Tour, Careers Induction and First Aid course, they have already experienced the rich variety of opportunities that lie ahead. These activities have helped them learn more about the culture and community of our School, while also developing practical skills and confidence as part of our vibrant community.

Beyond the classroom, their enthusiasm has been infectious. They have thrown themselves wholeheartedly into House events such as Tag Rugby, Cross Country, and Debating, showing teamwork, sportsmanship, and courage in abundance. Their energy and willingness to get involved sets a wonderful tone for the year ahead.

Academically, the Fourth Form have approached their broad and exciting curriculum with curiosity and determination. We look forward to seeing this translate into high attainment in their initial assessments. We have also seen them engage thoughtfully with the wider life of the school—representing departments as Pupil Ambassadors on Open Morning, supporting the Charity Society’s foodbank and coat collection, and listening with genuine reflection as author Jeffrey Boakye explored themes of Black History and identity. Their maturity and integrity in such discussions have been particularly impressive.

Looking ahead, there is much to look forward to: the eagerly anticipated House Drama and House Hockey, (especially following the U14s’ fantastic success in the London Hockey competition) and deliberating what to choose on GCSE Options evening. The Fourth Form have made an outstanding start to their Mill Hill careers—and if this half-term is anything to go by, the year ahead promises to be full of achievement, enthusiasm, and growth
