'Into the Sixth Form Evening'

Our 'Into the Sixth Form Evening' provided Fifth Form pupils from MHS and MHI and their families with an inspiring glimpse of what lies ahead. Through presentations from Heads of Department, students were invited to look beyond their GCSEs and begin thinking about how their subject choices might shape the futures they imagine for themselves.

Each department spoke about the A Level specifications and the units pupils will encounter, helping them see how knowledge deepens and broadens at Sixth Form level. Discussions moved naturally from course content to the rich variety of subject combinations available, and how these combinations open different doors. The message throughout was clear: the Sixth Form offers not just academic challenge, but the flexibility to build a personal pathway towards university, apprenticeships or the world of work.
We also spoke about the changing world awaiting these students , and an economy being reshaped by innovation, sustainability and global connectivity. Pupils were encouraged to see themselves as active participants in that future, developing the skills, independence and adaptability that employers and universities value most.

As the evening drew to a close, there was a strong sense of direction and purpose among our Year 11 pupils, many beginning to see how their A Level choices could unlock exciting and varied futures. With that energy still fresh, we now turn our attention to the Sixth Form Taster Day on 14 January: a key opportunity for students to step fully into the Sixth Form experience, explore subject combinations in practice, and gain a clearer sense of where their interests might lead.

The Taster Day will build on the curiosity and ambition sparked during the evening, giving pupils the chance to meet teachers, experience lessons at A Level pace, and talk with current Sixth Formers about their own pathways. Although there are some difficult decisions ahead, we hope that pupils feel motivated thinking about their next steps.
