Scholarship Showcase

We were delighted to welcome our Fourth Form scholars and their parents to our summer Scholarship Showcase, an evening designed to highlight their academic and creative achievements across the year.

From the outset, guests were encouraged to explore a range of exhibitions open throughout the evening. These offered a vivid sense of the diversity of scholarly work: from a wide-ranging Art installation spanning fine art to ceramics, to an interactive Computer Science LED project responsive to hand gestures, and a thoughtful History display exploring diversity and race in the school’s archives. Pupils showed real confidence and a strong grasp of their respective briefs as they engaged with guests in conversation. Alongside the exhibitions, a series of presentations and performances brought scholarship to life in different ways. Geography and STEM pupils shared independent research projects, while English scholars offered creative play readings and took on the challenge of debating the infamous ‘King and Country’ motion. Many thanks must also go to the Music department and their talented scholars, who added warmth and energy to the evening with their jazz and pop performances.

A particularly special feature of the evening was the contribution of Old Millhillians, who spoke informally about their journeys beyond school and the habits that helped them succeed. Aggie Kay, currently reading Classics at Oxford, spoke compellingly about the importance of pursuing interests beyond the curriculum, encouraging pupils to be authentic and to take ownership of their learning. Also returning was Katya Yushkina, who reflected on her path to studying Animation at the University of the Arts London. Of her many insights, it was her emphasis on perseverance - and on embracing the challenges set by teachers - that resonated most strongly.

Altogether, the showcase was a fitting celebration of our Scholars’ talents and the vitality of the Scholarship programme. On the basis of what was demonstrated, Mill Hill has much to look forward to in the years ahead.
