SIX The Musical
“After too many years lost in his-story,
We’re free to take our crowning glory."
These words, sung by Mill Hill School’s Queens at the conclusion of this week’s production of SIX, felt especially poignant given that fifty years ago the decision was made to welcome the first female pupils to the school. For 80 minutes, six female and non-binary young actors stepped into the spotlight to celebrate their power, wit, and individuality in performances that captivated four sold-out audiences.
Rehearsed in just (fittingly) six weeks, Ren (Macgregor), Yasmine (Winfield), Sophie (Priestley), Uzoamaka (Winfield), Olivia (Atkinson) and Nepheli’s (McClure) performances demonstrated the highest level talent and dedication, depicting the wives of Henry VIII as they battle each other over who had the greatest hardship, before coming together to overcome the real villain: systematic patriarchal structures.
Excitement surrounding the production swept through the school long before opening night, with tickets for the first performances selling out within just three hours and extra dates needing to be added. Safe to say, the Queens didn’t disappointed, with audiences unanimously agreeing the show rivalled the West End production.
With show-stopping dance routines, breath-taking solos and six-part harmonies that raised both the roof and the spirits of those watching, it was a musical triumph from opening number to final bow. Reflecting on the play Mr Tom Verco, Assistant Head (Admissions and Co-Curricular) said it “was bold, brilliant, and bursting with energy and I can honestly say it was one of the most enjoyable Co-Curricular events I’ve experienced in over a decade at Mill Hill. The cast and crew should be incredibly proud, it was, quite simply, SIX-sational”
‘I’m incredibly proud of how the cast have seized their opportunity to show the school not just their remarkable performance skills, but their unapologetic confidence and self-belief,’ says Mr Alex Gatherer, Director of Theatrical Performance. ‘They are shining role models to all the young girls from Belmont and our other MHEG prep schools who joined us throughout the week and will have seen first-hand how they too can be fierce, independent Queens in their own story, not just on stage but in every moment of the day.’
A review from the National School Theatre Awards stated that the "synchronicity and collaboration between the six performers was the rich heart and soul of the show throughout. A particularly heart warming moment came when Yasmine caught Olivia’s eye across the stage and they shared a smile that seemed to say everything - in that moment, their shared performance spoke volumes about the unifying power of theatre and teamwork. It was theatre’s magic distilled into a single glance. Marks out of five? SIX!” We are delighted that the show has been nominated for Best Musical at the 2026 awards, as well as the entire cast for Best Ensemble.
Congratulations to our Queens !
