Summer Sport Highlights

It has been another characteristically busy and rewarding term for our pupils on the fairways, courts, fields and track. Many of this term’s successes are the culmination of months of hard work during the off-season, laying strong foundations for performance and progress.

From the first indoor net in November to the last ball at Felsted, this has been the strongest year Mill Hill Cricket has produced in a long time, and the quality has run right through the programme.

The Boys 1st XI have had a genuinely historic year. First-ever wins against Brentwood and Haileybury helped us break into the national top-20 in-form schools. Blake B was outstanding, 97 against Haileybury and 250-plus runs for the school. Joe C led brilliantly with bat and ball, Martha L topped the most runs for the Girls 1st XI, and Sam W and George G were exceptional with the ball across the squads. Friday Night Lights produced back-to-back wins, the Girls 1st XI reached the Middlesex Cup Semi-Finals and played a first-ever fixture against the Women’s MCC, a historic moment for girls’ cricket here.

In the juniors, the U15A and U14A boys both reached Middlesex Cup Quarter-Finals, the girls’ sides competed well throughout, and Mr Bingham’s U14Bs had another magnificent season, eight fixtures, strong results, and a 150-plus partnership that goes into the record books.
And then there’s the Yorkshire tour. Fantastic wins against Hymers College and St Peter’s York. Francesco hit 101 on day one, then he and Noah put on a 120-run partnership in game two. But beyond the results, a mixed group of U14s, 15s, and 16s who have genuinely come together, with outstanding leadership and teamwork on and off the field. And to top it off, we got the boys to Headingley for a Women’s international and Noah and the lads ended up on Sky Sports.

60% more pupils playing representative cricket outside school. 8 wins from 10 indoor fixtures over winter and a programme that is filling up with confidence and performance.

Not to be out done, our Athletes also enjoyed a highly successful and busy term at Mill Hill. Pupils competed across a wide range of fixtures and championships. The season included strong performances in the Barnet Athletics League at Stone X Stadium and regular competition in the Hertfordshire League, alongside a first-ever friendly fixture against Kingshott and Belmont. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams produced outstanding results to qualify for their respective regional finals, demonstrating the depth of talent across the programme.

Individual athletes also excelled, with 11 pupils earning selection to compete at the Middlesex Championships. The athletics season concluded with an extremely competitive Sports Day, and Foundation Day Athletics Finals. Many records were broken displaying the ever-evolving talents in Athletics.
