Visit from Old Millhillian Caroline Hepker

This week we were delighted to welcome Old Millhillian and award winning journalist and podcast presenter Caroline Hepker back to Mill Hill School to take part in out Lunchtime Lecture series for pupils.

Caroline anchors Bloomberg Daybreak Europe radio programme and the daily podcast reporting on business, economics, politics and financial markets. She also leads Bloomberg’s weekly UK Politics Podcast. Prior to joining Bloomberg, Caroline spent 15 successful years at the BBC as a TV presenter and business reporter. This included seven years in New York as the BBC’s US business and economic reporter, covering major events such as the 2008 financial crisis.

Caroline spoke to pupils about what inspired her to pursue journalism, the thrill of chasing a story, and the importance of staying curious about the world.

Pupils had the chance to ask questions, including one about what she works towards at work. Caroline explained: “The bigger the story, the better.” In journalism, she said, there’s always a drive to collect the facts, because that’s what really matters. She left pupils with memorable advice: “The news is linear, yesterday’s news is gone, there’s always something bigger” and “Ask the killer question.”

Poppy F (Weymouth) also had the fantastic opportunity to interview Caroline alongside Ellen Weaver, our Foundation Careers Lead.

A huge thank you to Caroline for coming in, we really saw our pupils open up and engage, and we hope she will visit again soon!
