We have had a wonderful start to the second half of the Autumn term. Ahead of our trip to London next week, we focused our learning on key London landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Tower Bridge, the Houses of Parliament, The Gherkin and The Shard. The children added post-it notes of facts they already know about London landmarks on the Jamboard interactive platform. They then sorted some London landmark statements into ones that are true, could be true and are definitely not true.
We were also extremely lucky to board and explore a real London bus outside school- the children absolutely loved it and asked the bus driver lots of questions!
The children delved deeper into London and began to research a chosen landmark using books, the internet and videos. This information was transformed into a Top Trump card which the children thoroughly enjoyed.
As mentioned last week, Year 2 were thrilled to welcome Ms Burgess back to Grimsdell. She used her specialist art skills to teach the children how to create line drawings of key landmarks, paint them using inks and provide contrast/detail using colour. The outcomes were amazing and we hope you enjoy looking at their creations on the front cover of the children’s journals.
