Cricket Roundup of the Year: Celebrating an Unforgettable Season at Mill Hill
As we bring the academic year to a close, it's the perfect time to reflect on a truly standout year for cricket at Mill Hill. The 2024–25 season has seen remarkable individual and team achievements, the launch of our Cricket Academy, and the continued strengthening of our cricket culture across all age groups. With enhanced infrastructure and year-round programming now in place, Mill Hill cricket is undoubtedly on an exciting upward trajectory.
A Landmark Year for Girls' Cricket
A particular highlight of the season was the historic success of our U15 Girls’ Cricket team, who were crowned Middlesex Cup Champions and went on to reach the National Quarter Finals, the furthest any Mill Hill girls’ team has progressed in a national competition to date. Their performance throughout the season has set a new benchmark and vision for girls' cricket at Mill Hill.

Among the many standouts, Evie B scored a stunning century during the summer, as well as Martha L and Charlotte B offering strong support in other games with 50’s for both. Additionally, Caitlin’s consistency with the ball earned her the prestigious Hamilton Bailey Trophy, awarded to the best bowler in the school. Her performances were instrumental in many team victories and a testament to the depth of talent developing across the girls’ game.
Introducing the Mill Hill Cricket Academy
This year also marked the launch of the Mill Hill Cricket Academy, providing selected pupils with an enhanced training and development experience throughout the year. Pupils participated in specialist indoor training sessions and fixtures, tactical and technical team sessions, and outdoor fielding sessions which built strong momentum going into the summer term.

The impact was clear to see, with the Academy Team (including every age group and gender) beating Bishops Stortford Boys 1st XI, and all playing key roles in their respective teams and demonstrating notable improvements in technical skills, tactical understanding and physical performance. The Academy will continue to grow in the coming seasons, further underlining our commitment to excellence in cricket and fixtures.
Fixture & Pupil Success
The summer season featured a packed calendar of fixtures and sunshine, allowing pupils across year groups to represent the school and enjoy competitive match play in a variety of settings. From block fixtures to a dedicated cricket week and cups, there were countless moments of personal and team success.
For the 1st XI, Joe C was a standout performer, scoring multiple half-centuries and taking key wickets throughout the season. His all-round excellence was recognised with the Wilkinson Trophy for Best All-Rounder. We also witnessed a Friday Night Lights event where, for the first time ever, we put out three Senior teams - Boys 1st XI, 2nd XI and a Girls 1st XI, a fantastic and historic evening.
Across all age groups, younger players are increasingly demonstrating the positive impact of our investment in cricket infrastructure, Noah A (Yr9), Francesco C (Yr9) and George G (Yr10) making Boys 1st XI debuts. We have also seen a rise of pupil engagement within cricket at school but also more pupils playing club and representative cricket.
Mill Hill Cricket Dinner
Celebrating 99 years of Cricket on Park at the Mill Hill Cricket Dinner. A few weeks ago, former staff, Old Millhillians, current staff and parents joined together for an evening of celebrating what was, what is, and what’s to come for Cricket at Mill Hill School. A blend of storytelling, heartfelt anecdotes and waving passion captured the spirit of cricket perfectly and reminded us how school cricket can spark a lifelong love for the game. We are very excited for the next few years and what’s to come for Mill Hill Cricket, especially as the new year will be celebrating 100 years on Park.
