This Week in Reception

Wow! What a fantastic week Reception have had!

The children are engrossed in our new topic of Japan and were thrilled to receive an email from Mimiko, the little girl from Tokyo who sent us a video full of facts about Japan. Reception have been busy writing facts about what they have learned so far.

This week the children have been comparing the Japanese flag and the flag of England. They painted the flags using the correct colours and discussed the meaning of the flags.

Reception have also had a try at Japanese writing using a water scroll to write Japanese numbers and letters.

Thank you for your help with bringing in kitchen roll tubes for our creative task this week. The children have enjoyed designing a blossom tree from the tubes and adding tissue paper for detail.

For our Circle Time this week, we read the story of ‘The Colour Monster’. This story describes different feelings and emotions the children may experience. In our classrooms, we have Colour Monster Jars to match each emotion. Every morning the children will place their named lolly stick into the jar which best describes their emotions on that day. This supports the children with explaining their emotions and allowing their teachers and friends to support this.
