We raise funds for our chosen charitable causes and for the school, but our main aim is to provide fun opportunities for parents, children and staff to get together in an informal atmosphere that promotes a strong sense of community.
All parents and guardians are automatically part of the GPA, but we recognise that not everyone will have the time to be hands on. As such, we hold bi-termly meetings and operate a class representative system that helps to keep all parents informed and involved.
Part of our events calendar sees us working alongside the teaching staff to deliver learning experiences for the children. In previous years we have been able to fund a visit by an owl sanctuary to enhance the term’s topic “Into the Woods”, and made the most of our multi-lingual parent body in Language Week by inviting dozens of families into the classrooms to introduce their first language to the children.
There are also plenty of fun social activities throughout the year too. We have taken over the screen of a local cinema for an end of term outing, hosted a touring pantomime company and thrown a Halloween party to name just a few. For the adults, our Quiz Night and Art Auction at Mill Hill School is always a sell-out and raises a lot of money for the chosen charity of the year.
With the help of all our families we also organise other exciting and rewarding annual initiatives, including participating in Children in Need (with a visit from Pudsey Bear himself!), a Macmillan Coffee Morning to rival ‘Bake Off’, and co-ordinating with the school to produce Christmas cards for the children to give to their loved ones.
There are regular announcements about what’s coming up and how you can get involved, so please do look out for them on Classlist, Instagram, the GPA noticeboards or in the weekly Grimsdell newsletter.
In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming you into the parent community!
