Grimsdell freezes over as ‘Ice Worlds’ begin!

When I returned to school after the holidays it was almost as though the Christmas decorations had gone up rather than come down, as our new term at Grimsdell represents that start of our brand new whole school theme: Ice worlds! With a flurry of snow and ice we have transformed our environment so that icicles, snowflakes, icebergs and snow covered mountains feature in every corner of the school.

The classrooms are full of artic artefacts, books and animals and the children have been truly inspired by their interactive experiences such as handling ice, watching the melting process, making real snow and discovery soft, cuddly versions of the polar wildlife. Classrooms are filled with igloos, explorer camps and the activities are leading to some really inspired thinking and writing across all subject areas, from Science and Geography to Art and DT. Watching their faces light up as they walked through the door on the first day back was a really thrilling moment. The teachers and assistants work so hard to bring learning to life in this magical way and when the children respond with such positivity and engagement it reminds us all why we love our jobs so much and that we are at the heart, a school for children.
