Davenies Football Festival

A selection of the 1st XI represented Belmont at the Davenies Festival and returned as worthy winners. In their opening match versus Gayhurst Belmont ran out comfortable winners. A fantastic performance from Jacob E supported by some cool finishing from Tobi S was the highlight of a great opening victory.

In their second match versus Northwood the team dominated from start to finish but allowed a one goal lead to slip in the final minute. A rather disappointing performance draw against the Oratory saw the team finish second in their group and progress to the semi-final.

This was no doubt the team’s best performance of the morning and they steam-rolled the opposition with some slick passing football and cool finishing. Mackie B was instrumental in this victory providing the team with a solid defensive base and Jacob E scored a wonderful hat trick. The 5-0 score line was a true reflection of their dominance over Davenies and a place in the final versus Gayhurst was secured.

The final was dominated by Belmont from start to finish as they peppered the Gayhurst goal but lacked composure in front of goal and at the same time were thwarted by the Gayhurst keeper who had a fine game. The game went into extra time and despite the efforts of Tobi S and Jamie D, who saw his shot cleared off the goal line, Belmont were unable to find a winning goal. The match was to be decided with a dreaded penalty shootout, Tobi S Mackie B and Gabriel M all scored and then saw goalkeeper Luca C pull off an amazing save. This gave Jamie D the opportunity to be the team’s hero and he duly obliged.

A fantastic morning of football and worthy winners of a competitive tournament.
