Senior Basketball Team Spring Half Term 2023

This Half Term, the London Independent Schools Basketball Association (LISBA) senior basketball regular season had a nail-biting and intriguing end. The Mill Hill squad succeeded in their primary goal of securing the top qualifying spot for the league’s playoffs. On our path to the top spot, the boys won four of their five league matches.

Most of the fixtures were played at home, and seeing an increasing number of supporters in the Sports Hall has been wonderful! During the season, the squad faced Aldenham Senior School. Savion S’s (Cedars House) physical dominance exploded in this match – scoring 30 points including five dunks. Leo B (School House) diligently assisted him with 10 assists, and Volodymyr M (Priestley House) made two three-point shots which helped seal the game’s final score of 41-58 to Mill Hill.

The squad also enjoyed comfortable victories against Berkhamsted School (50-30) and Watford Boys Grammar School (55-49). During the games, I was extremely impressed by the offensive and defensive performances of Rafael V B (Murray House) (top scorer with over 20 points), Finn T S (Burton Bank House) (five steals) and our top rebounder Pharell J (Ridgeway House).

Our hardest-fought match was against Dwight London School. Thanks to Edgar G’s (Priestley House) unparalleled offensive skills, Kyle R’s (McClure House) speed and resilience, Ajani D’s (Priestley House) defensive tenacity and Ethan S’s (School House) fearless engagement, the team recovered from a 20-point deficit to claim an 80-72 victory. This final game saw the squad attain the highest score of the regular season. After the Easter holiday, we will face University College School (UCS) in the playoffs.

Securing the top place this Half Term would not have been possible without our coaches Mr Ducasse, Cover Supervisor, and Mr Ratz, Teacher of Economics, hard work and dedication. A special mention goes to coach Mr Leonidas, Cover Supervisor, for all his hard work in previous months which helped the boys succeed. Many thanks to Mr Suter, Teacher of Chemistry. He is the team’s official photographer and minibus driver, who has been a reliable and positive presence throughout the season.
