Snow arrangements

I hope that everyone has had a pleasant week and that the snow of Tuesday night didn’t cause too much disruption to your commute home. I am very grateful for all the staff who got in extra early on Wednesday morning to make sure the front drive was safe and to help with the ‘stop, drop and go’ arrangements. I am pleased that we have some milder weather today and long may it continue. However, should there be any significant wintery conditions forecast, the website should be your first port of call for the most up-to-date information. When necessary, we will also communicate via text and provide further details about any special arrangements through email.

Sport, Maths, History and Music

Despite some meteorological challenges that resulted in the cancellation of some fixtures there has been a huge amount going on this week. The Cross Country team gave an admirable performance in very cold conditions in the Middlesex Championships on Thursday. On Monday and Tuesday Mrs Pugh and the Maths department ran two action-packed Maths Days with pupils across the school taking part in a variety of challenging activities. 5TB and 5SB had a wonderful time visiting the British Museum and learning about the Pharaohs. Today we also have our Upper School Chamber Choir singers performing at the RSC in Stratford-Upon-Avon. They will be singing music from a score composed by one of our singing teachers. ‘The Wind Singer’ is based on the children’s book of the same name by William Nicholson. We wish the children and especially the composer, Sarah Llewelyn, the very best of luck in front of the panel of judges.

Pupil Enterprise and Generosity

Last week I shared with you the great news about receiving planning permission for the new Sports Hall last week. On the fundraising front I would like to thank all of those families who have given so generously to the campaign already. I would not normally thank donors publicly but one donation this week came from a 13-year-old pupil. Maddy in Year 8 has set up her own slime business and she worked with a team of helpful Year 8 friends on a stall at the FOB Winter wonderland. Maddy and her team made an incredible £500 profit; I am absolutely touched that this has been donated towards the new Sports Hall. Maddy and her team are an inspiration to our younger pupils, demonstrating entrepreneurial flair, business acumen and a generous spirit.
