Reading week and 40 Years of the French Exchange

Reading Week

I hope you’ve all had a great week. The children have been treated to a celebration of books this week with a spectacular series of events organised by the English Department. The children have listened to authors, attended a book fair, participated in poetry recitals, visited The Globe and the Roald Dahl museum. Most people’s favourite day was yesterday when most of the school dressed up as a fictional character for World Book Day. There were some exceptional outfits and I look forward to announcing the winners in assembly on Monday. For more details on these wonderful events you can look at the website or follow us on social media. I would like to say a huge thank you to Miss Bufton, Mrs Pendred, Mrs Hunt, Miss Ali, Mr McBurnie, Mrs Schaller and Mr Unwin for all of their efforts into organising such a memorable week for the children. We are all looking forward to Science week that started early today with Y6 girls joining Mill Hill’s Science Department to take part in activities that celebrate women in Science.

40 Years of the French Exchange

This week we welcomed our French friends from Rouen and I would like to say a huge thank you to the Belmont families who are hosting the pupils from Jean Paul II School in Rouen. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the exchange and Mrs McRill has organised a dinner for M. et Mme Eude, the Head of Jean Paul II and his wife, as well as Mrs Sanchez, Head of Mill Hill, and Mr William Winfield, former Head of Mill Hill who helped to supervise the first French Exchange 40 years ago, as well as members of the French department both past and present. I am looking forward to the meal and celebrating the occasion, but I am slightly anxious about my first attempt at public speaking in French! My wife has never signed up to an event so quickly such is her enthusiasm to hear the French spoken word with a hint of Leicestershire.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Best wishes,

Leon Roberts
