On Tuesday 11th February 2020 the Year 11 GCSE Music class went to see the London Philharmonic Orchestra perform ‘Bach to the Future’ at the Royal Festival Hall.
The programme featured masterpieces of the Baroque era contrasted with 20th century innovation. This was also an opportunity for the pupils to experience their GCSE set pieces performed live with a commentary of detailed musical analysis and an illustrative presentation projected on screen. Pupils discovered the versatility of orchestral sounds and colours, and learnt about the historical context and changing perception of what it means to be a composer.
