Sports Report by Max M and Ansel T (Sports Ambassadors)

After a very active start to the school year there have been many great sporting achievements in each year group. The sports that pupils have taken part in include rugby, football, hockey, golf and basketball.

Rugby

Rugby has been a great success for the pupils at MHI, starting with the U16s. The three players who played rugby for Mill Hill in the U16 age group were Max M, Adam B and Ansel T. It was Ansel’s first-time playing rugby and he made quick progress to be able to play in the U16B team so fast. Adam B also had a couple appearances for the U16A team, but for most of the season all three of these players played in the U16B team and also had a debut in the U18 3rd XV against St Albans School, which ended in a 19-12 victory. The season was very successful with four out of five wins. The U15s had a successful season as well with some stand out players, such as Angel Z who only began playing rugby this year. He started playing in the U15C team and progressed all the way to the U15A team where he had his first appearance with St Albans School. Stone L, Rayyan K, Adilet O, Artem G, Michael V and Arthur M also played in the U15 age group. Moving on to the U14s where the three MHI players were David E, Henry W and Aidan J, who all started playing rugby this year and managed to make it onto the U14B and C teams, with David E scoring three tries against UCS in their most recent match.

We were delighted to see the following MHI pupils pick up end of term rugby awards this year:

U15C Spirit of Mill Hill Award – Rayyan K

U15B Most Improved Player – Angel Z

U15B Spirit of Mill Hill Award – Adilet O

U15A Most Improved Player – Stone L

Football

MHI has had a great start to the football season with Luke K in Year 11 playing for the U18 1st XI in defence and winning all three of their first three matches. In addition, Deborah O has been a fantastic player in the U15A football team, who participated in the Middlesex County Cup. There was also a mini MHI football league where many players across each year participated and competed for the MHI cup. We look forward to continuing with more football in the new year.

Hockey

Hana K and Hirona K have represented the U15B team this season and have played in numerous matches this term. They have played five matches, their most recent match a 2-0 victory over New Hall School. Leonard S has also been playing in the mixed 1st XI and is ready to play a full season of boys’ hockey next term.

An extra well done to Hirona, who was given the U15B team’s Spirit of Mill Hill Award.

Golf

Adam B and Max M took part in a few matches against other schools and have come out with victories each time. Adam also played against the Old Millhillians team at The Grove in Hertfordshire. Both have been going to weekly lessons with the golf coach Mr Halford and have worked on many skills.

Basketball

There have been multiple pupils from MHI who have been training in the sports hall at MHS to get ready for next term’s basketball fixtures. Finn S and Donya S are both training with the U18s and are excited to be joining the senior tour to San Sebastian, Spain over the Christmas holiday.
